Learning languages has for many years been something other people do – at least if you are from the UK. English is the world’s most spoken language if you include those who speak it as a second tongue. Where once Britain’s educated classes would have spoken several languages as standard, today high schools are ripping languages from the curriculum. If you are lucky enough to already know the most useful language in the world, then surely your time is better spent studying other academic areas, or so goes the argument.

However, the CIA World Fact Book states that less than 6% speak English as a first language. CVs almost always contain the phrase “excellent communication skills” or something very similar. But what does this mean exactly? Without additional languages, communication is very limited. Indeed, knowledge of multiple languages is also said to help improve the mother tongue of the speaker, providing as it does a point of reference for understanding how vocabulary and grammar work in all languages.

Beyond the boardroom: the health benefits of learning another tongue

Beyond the boardrooms and bars of the wide world, new research seems to suggest that learning a language – and becoming bilingual – has far wider (and potentially far more important) advantages. As the brain is so complicated, firm conclusions are hard to come by, but in a study at the Baycrest geriatric centre in Toronto, cognitive neuroscientist Ellen Bialystok found that bilingualism seems to stave off the effects of Alzheimer’s. Her findings showed that because the brain has to work harder when learning and retaining languages it is better prepared to resist the debilitating effects of the disease.

You’re never too old

Thus, even if students do not have total mastery of a second language, their health and their brain benefit enormously. Just as a simple activity, such as taking a different route home from work, can stimulate the brain and keep it dynamic, so can remembering new words, sentence structures and unfamiliar manners. In the end, you’ll not only have a beautiful new language and a foot in the door of multinational companies, but a better chance of being in control of your life for longer. And you needn’t worry – no matter what age you begin to learn a language (or anything for that matter), the positive effects of mental stimulation will be played out in the health record.

If that’s inspired you to look for the best Italian language courses or get learning and book a Spanish course London has what you need. From St Georges International to all the other language centres operating in the city’s glamorous West End, you’ll find someone to help you help yourself.

So how do you get out of such a viscous cycle?
Stop watching TV for a while and read some god books instead.
Here is a good article you can start with.

How to Build Confidence For Personal Development:

The ultimate factor to change your quality of life is to build confidence. Personal development improves confidence. How to improve your confidence with personal development? As you develop your skills your confidence to manage all of life’s challenges improves. To read and study personal development does not make it happen. You need to exercise the discipline to act to make it a reality. It only take ounces of discipline to avoid tons of regret. Are you being as faithful and fruitful as God intended for you? Have you realized the gift of what you can be? For many people they have not really defined what they can and or want to be. Have you realized the gift of what you can be?

According to Evolutionary Theory man lost his tail when he stopped using it. A tail was useful for balancing when walking on tight corners on the four or while hanging by the tree. But when man started walking, he did not need to hang on a tree anymore and was using less and less of his tail. As the evolution progressed, he lost it! Because evolution follows the ‘Use it or Lose It‘ principle.

So is it true for all human organs?
Think about someone who never exercised in life or did any hard work. what is the state of his muscles? Weak and often plumpy. muscles follow the same rule Use it or Lose It.
So how about the big ol’ Brain? If you don’t use it often enough, you sure ain’t gonna keep it …
Scientists have determined that if the brain is not stimulated through various brain exercises, neuronal and neuron connections die. So what types of brain exercises can keep you sharp way into old age? Deferring exercises stimulate different areas of the brain. Some exercises stimulate areas of the brain which stimulate the emotional parts which help us develop skills in communication and cooperation with others, while others stimulate areas of the brain which handle analytical thinking, including dealing with numbers and logical thinking.

So How do you exercise your Brain?

Giving your Brain a work out is very easy. you need to help brain form new neuro cortical connections. New connections are forged when you creating new habits, have new experiences and refresh the old and mix the new ones, like mixing of different fruits in a blender.

If you are typical left brained person try taking some painting classes or singing classes that stimulate your right brain. If you are right brained person, try your hand at solving puzzles or math games.

Learning a new language or new musical instruments is one of the best whole brain activity which boosts left-right brain coordination. This is the best way to gym your brain.
Learning something new is a fantastic way to activate new neurons and neural connections. This literally grows your brain.

An interesting fact scientists have noticed, is that the brain is one of the few parts of the body that seems to resist aging. As you exercise your brain and put it to good use. Giving it a variety of intellectual stimulation, it grows well the rest of the body ages. Clearly, you can keep your mind young and yourself highly intelligent by continually using brain exercises that test your skills in the challenge you to explore new things. As an added benefit, such brain exercises have demonstrated the ability to counter the development of certain brain disorders associated with old age.

It is true that as we age, we tend to be more forgetful of where we placed our car keys or the name of someone we just met. While age affects short-term memory, it seems that the long-term memory is not affected even after a severe brain disorder. Doesn’t it make sense to make your goal to improve your memory with brain exercises? There is an abundance of puzzles, projects and quizzes that you can try that can also be found online. For more brain teasers you take on, the more capacity your brain will have to serve you and the longer it will do so.
